The job duties of the retail pharmacist usually include the following:
Review prescription orders both electronically
and written for accuracy and completeness.

Order entry for hand written physician orders.

Screen medication orders for allergies,
interactions, correct dosage, etc. and document interventions as appropriate.

Prepare and dispense prescribed medications for outpatients
and community.

Provide technician guidance and support.

Counsel patients regarding drug therapy when
requested.

Using automated dispensing machines.

Oversight of automated dispensing machine utilization.

Utilize various resources for obtaining drug
information.

Follow procedures concerning quality assurance,
security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous drugs.

Ability to lift large heavy items; may include
up to 12 liters of fluid or 50 pounds of weight.

Preparing clinic medications for delivery.

Controlled substance inventory.

Double checking all technician work.
