Position Overview:
We are seeking a Locum Emergency Medicine physician to assist with coverage needs due to a recruitment gap. The role includes providing supervision to a midlevel on duty. The average patient volume is 54 per day, in an 18-bed emergency department. The hospital's current EHR system is Cerner. The ED is designated as a provisional level 4 trauma center with an annual ER volume of 20,000.
Team Structure:
- Full-time Midlevel and two PRNs
- Four full-time physicians and one PRN
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and supervise the midlevel staff on duty
- Coordinate with hospitalists for writing admission orders, mostly involving bed orders and bridging orders
- Respond to house codes alongside hospitalists
- Provide airway support during codes, with anesthesiology backup available during the day
Protocol and Support Services:
- Radiology: CT and X-ray available; MRI not available 24/7
- Laboratory: Full 24-hour availability
- Blood Bank: Certified by AABB
- Pathology and Surgical Services: Available
- Referral and Transfer: Coordination with nearest facilities, with helicopter support available for critical transfers
Requirements:
- Board Certification in EM or FP with a minimum of 2 years of ER experience
- Clean background for expedited credentialing
- Local resident required
- Valid Michigan medical license
Certifications Required:
- ACLS
- ATLS
- PALS (if non-EM boarded)
- BLS
Health Requirements:
- Up-to-date flu vaccine for the 24-25 season
- COVID documentation or declination
- TB test: 2-step within 12 months or Quantiferon within 6 months
- Hepatitis B titer or declination
- MMR vaccines or titers
- Varicella vaccines or titers
- TDAP vaccine (within the last 10 years)
