This is a GI hospitalist position involving 24-hour call shifts for GI coverage. The assignment is for 1-2 weeks per month. The role involves conducting an average of 5-8 procedures daily, including up to 5 elective outpatient procedures that require Anesthesia (Mac) support, but not IVCS. There will be an average of 3-6 new inpatient consults per day.
Candidates who can perform ERCP are strongly preferred. Anesthesia is readily available during the day, with two teams usually available during weekend mornings.
The physician will communicate biopsy results directly to the patient or through the designated clinic MA. They must also coordinate additional steps, including referrals, follow-ups, and further imaging as needed. EPIC training is required.
Physicians are responsible for handling 5-8 patient encounters per shift. The nearest airports are Yakima Air Terminal and Tri-Cities Airport (PSC).
Board certification is required, with a minimum board certification eligibility. Candidates must hold an ACLS certification. The facility has a trauma level of 3 and a PEDs level of 3. Credentialing is estimated to take 60-90 days.
Required specialty skills include:
– Upper GI endoscopy with biopsy, foreign body removal, fulguration of bleeder (cautery vs. laser), and injection of varices
– ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography), both diagnostic and therapeutic preferred
– PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy), preferred
– Lower GI endoscopy, including flexible and rigid sigmoidoscopy
– Colonoscopy with biopsy and excision of polyps
Preferred experience includes:
– Diagnostic and therapeutic ERCP
– Insertion/management of Sengstaken/Blakemore tube
Esophageal dilatation/manometry, manometry interpretation, small bowel biopsy, endoscopic ultrasound, and liver biopsy are not required.
